In an attempt to maintain better Brewboard performance by keeping the database size in check, we are moving toward a process to automatically purge old posts on a regular basis. However, we also realize that there are some great topics and discussions here that many of you want to see saved for long-term reference. Therefore we have enabled the ability to add star ratings (1 to 5 scale) in both the Beer and the WM&C brewing forums. A similar process is already in place in the Public House.

Please read carefully:

• To rate a topic, simply view that topic and note the 5-star rating system in the upper right corner of the page.
• Auto-pruning has only started in the Public House - not yet in the brewing related forums
• Auto-pruning will start in the brewing forums (but NOT their subforums) after a period of time to allow for you to rate your favorite topics
• Topics with a rating of 4 or 5 stars will be saved from prunings indefinitely
• Topics with a rating of 3 stars will get a little extra time to see if further votes will tip the scale one way or the other
• Topics in the brewing forums with less than 3 stars will be purged after a time yet to be determined, but probably 1 or 2 years
• Topics in the Public House rated less than 3 stars are purged in just 30 days
• A minimum of 3 votes must be cast before ratings are published on the list of topics page for others to see
• Do not "bump" posts with meaningless replies to get their attention for votes - mods will delete such bumps, and abuse may result in moderator action against the member
• Instead, use private PMs or post links to your favorite threads as replies to this announcement to attract voting attention to them
