Jess, what are the criteria for being disqualified? I know sometimes it's obvious when a spammer tries to join up, but I was just wondering what other "qualifications" might be taken into consideration.

I am using an IP Look-Up that references known spammer IP addresses. Over the last two weeks I have been able to disqualify over 30 potential members that had direct links to the spam IP's. I have started noticing disqualified applicants repeating their application process with the same IP's and the same names so I am starting to ban the IP addresses of these known spammers. The process takes between 2-5 minutes on each applicant but it will be worth it if we can cut one spammer out.

The other thing that will lead to disqualification is the use of a proxy server on registration because this is also a tactic that spammers use. So far, I have not disqualified anyone using a proxy server.

You guys must be doing a very good job, even before the new policy, because I've only seen one spam episode in the entire time I've been participating here!

Damn, Jess -- that's a lot of work! Thanks, both for the effort and the explanation. (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/cool.gif)

Due to the July 4th holiday there were some delays that occurred and it has become apparent the 2-3 times a week is more frequent than I can do regularly so the timing goal has been changed to 1-2 times a week. Allot of spammers this round.
