I've been brewing for about 3 years, but finally became a member and so far...eh. I'm just not sure what I'm getting.

I read TechTalk, but don't feel like the info there is any better than the few forums I read.
There are few pubs with discounts in my area.
I'm not a "social" homebrewer, so I'm not getting together for rallys or anything.

I guess I like the couple of issues of Zymergy that I've read so far, but is it worth the price of membership?

So what am I missing?

I actually really enjoy my membership. I know they say that you're money goes toward helping further homebrewing, and I'm not so political so that doesn't really intrestme as much as the rest. I get a discount on all my ingredients from my LHBS. If you count the magazine in some kind of monetary value, and the discounts, really I'm getting paid to join!

It pays for itself every year with the discount I get entering the NHC.

I have been a member for 2years now and the rallys are worth it. The last one I went to was at smuttynose brewery.we got a tour endless samples and free food. The local discounts and mag are worth the price

Check out their new website for homebrewers, www.homebrewersassociation.org

I pay back my membership with the pub discount easily, and there's only 1 place in NH that accepts it, The Portsmouth Brewery. Besides, the AHA does excellent work standing up for Homebrewers rights. Just look at the recent events in Alabama, Utah, and Washington.

The mag, Zymurgy, is well done. Also, get some discounts at area pubs and also to NHC entries. If you go to the NHC, I think AHA members get a lower rate.
Even it you just get the mag it's worth it because you are supporting the cause. They do a lot of work for the hobby.

Like lobbying to help keep craft beer from being overtaxed and legalizing homebrewing and homebrew shipping.

I like Zymurgy, but after you've brewed for a few years it isn't as exciting to see an issue in the mailbox as it used to be. The primary reason I keep my membership current is to support the hobby and cause. We need someone who's willing to do the legwork to keep our hobby from being misunderstood, attacked by overzealous politicians and people that are hostile to anything that has to do with alcohol, and to educate the public.

Wow! Those are tall orders. (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/biggrin.gif)
