I know this is the problem that I had last year when I tried to get the beer. I'll have to check and see if I can get it now. Were you able to get it last year? I was told the same thing in Virginia Beach and Blacksburg, and I think Dale contacted some people and was told the same thing. I'd be interested in seeing if it didn't hold true for the whole state.

What does Vim and Vigor have to do with not selling it in VA?

I actually kinda like the fact that this recipe is a LITTLE less potent than WWS. It finishes out at about 15%.
I guess you could bump up the candy sugar to 3 lbs to achieve a closer alcohol contect to the WWS.
WWS was a bit TOO much alcohol for me to stomach, more of a liqueur than a beer! This clone beer attempt has a great taste which actually HANGS in your mouth about 5-6 minutes after each sip. During this time, the flavors change in your mouth. If you burp during this time, a big hop aroma comes out your nose. "Pretty well-balanced", a friend of mine told me 2 nights ago.....

I just picked one up here to send to CJ.. Capital Ale House has it pretty consistently also.

Got 24 points out of 50. Had points taken off because I didn;t fill the bottle up as far as I should have. My first competition. Every one of my friends can't beleive this did not win...they said it was the best stout they ever had.

What category did you enter it into?

I find it hard to believe you lost points on the fill....there aren't any points associated with it on the BJCP scoresheet. You can comment on it, but there are no points....

What competition was it?

Jim

Licke Jimvy said, just because you got a "low fill" comment, don't assume that points were actually deducted. At the Brewboard Open competition last year, many of us were getting "low fill" comments, but they didn't impact our scores at all. (Which is a good thing, because I don't think that mine really were too low, and others had the same reaction about their bottles.) What were your scores in each category?

Did not check a FG . Our estimate was it was about 15% based on a panel of six guys who tasted it. Next time I crack a bottle I will.

I can get the WWS here now, so whatever the problem was with the bottle last year, I guess it got resolved this year.

It is crazy, but according to the state it apparently amounted to an unsubstantiated "health" claim. Oh well, I should be grateful to be in a state with no 6% law. And from what Cam says it looks like getting it this year will be no problem.
