Tried my first Sam Adams Chocolate Bock today. It is the best chocolate flavored brew I think I have ever had ! I have been experimenting with choc. for the last year and have tried every choc. porter, stout or bock I could find and this beats them all. If there is a clone recipe for this I would love to know about it because at about $6.00 per glass its a bit pricey.

The accountant at the Sam Adams brewery in Cincy is the treasurer of our local club, the Bloatarian Brewing League. Remind me tomorrow to call him and ask him if he can help. I won't remember it at this point tonight.

I'm sure you know this by now, but, Brew Your Own magazine's November 2004 edition has an excellent article on brewing with Chocolate. I've tried their suggestion of adding lactose to a Porter recipe, and it helped tremendously. I hope your results are as good as mine were.

It was a really good beer, but way too expensive which is why i gave it a 7, just not worth 15 a bottle... The bottle you get is really neat though.

The accountant told me that they use a half pound of chocolate "nibs" per barrel in the secondary for two weeks. It cost me a bottle of my chocolate stout.

Man, I thought this stuff was pretty much crap. The chocolate came across as cloying and artificial, oversweet and too tart. I think chocolate matches much better with a roasty stout than a bock. Plus, for $15/bomber I can get way, way better.

Not bad, but not great. For the money, it should be much better. A solid 7. (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/smile.gif)

It should be around $2-3 a bottle... $15 is a big rip off.

I paid the $13 for the bottle and it was possibly the most tasty and complex beer I've had. I didn't find the chocolate overpowering and the maltiness of the bock style complimented it well. I gave it a 10.

I tried a bottle of it over chirstmas. Way to thick and sweet. I didn't even finish the bottle, and that says alot...

Finally tried this bock, and I enjoyed it. Dessert beer definately, light and sweet. I gave it a 10! I thought that we are basing the rating on the beer it self and not the price. Otherwise it would've gotten a 3.

Had kept a bottle of this in the fridge for almost a year and finally shared it with a friend... the chocolate was there and it was smooth, thinking if I had it a bir fresher, it would have been better - gave it a 7.

I found this to be a very good beer and well balanced. Somewhat sweet and a good mouthfeel. Can't find it anywhere local now.
Was trying to locate a good clone recipe. My last attempt to clone it was not very accurate. The cocoa nibs added too much bitterness and it needed a bit more body.

Anyone have a good clone recipe for this brew?
