I tried this beer out of a 22oz. bomber. This beer has quite a few stand out charcteristics . First the aroma, this beer screams (smell me) Hops aren't really apart of the equaton. The speacilty grain is the back bone to the aroma. Coffee, chocolate and I get a burnt smell almost like an over cooked teryaki steak. Second, the mouthfeel is quite nice, it coats but doesn't put a blanket over your toungue.

One of the best commercial beers I've ever had (ship me some more please.) Just kidding...well not really. A BB member from the PNW was kind enough to send me a couple of bottles and another member has offered to send me more. First time I tasted it, I was hooked.
From my research: they use GW 2-row and Munich malt as a base and 4 other specialty grains from the UK. They used to smoke the entire grain bill but now just the GW For lovers of smoked beers, I give this one my highest recommendation |

I'm with Hophead. I tried it on a trip to Alaska and fell in love.

Anybody have a recipe for something that comes close to this. I have never had it but it sounds damn good to me. (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/smile.gif) I would really like to try the real thing but live no where near Alaska. Any ideas on how to get some other than going there and getting it myself. I tasted Hophead's version, and it comes mighty darn close. Check out his recipe in the recipe forum. I gave it a 9.

This beer is one of my all time favorites. The smokiness is what makes this beer. Thank god for BevMo since they seem to keep a regualr stock of this throughout the winter. |

I gave it a 10 and I gave hophead's version a 9. I doubt I would be able to tell the two apart in a side by side.

I'm not a big smoked beer guy but this is good stuff. The smokey flavor is very subtle (unlike, say, Rauchbier) but you can still taste it (unlike, say, Stone Smoked Porter).
