I find the American ESB scene somewhat lackluster. Even breweries I love (Anderson Valley, e.g.) seem to have a hard time distinguishing the ESB style from an IPA. Maybe I haven't been drinking the right ones, but Bridgeport is one example of a definitely distinguished ESB, and a right tasty beverage to boot.
If you love their IPA, try the ESB. Iz goot (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/hehe.gif) !
