I put together a spreadsheet with a few handy mead-related functions, and thought I'd post it for anyone else who might find it useful.
There's three tabs. - Calculator This tab has a few calculator tools. In each, the green cells are input fields, the rest will be calculated automatically. * The OG Calculator can help figure out the OG. There's room for 4 ingredients, so it can be used for cysers and braggots in addition to straight meads. * The Brix to SG convertor is self explanatory.. * Staggered Nutrients Add point calculator is designed to give the proper SG levels for each nutrient, according to Hightest's staggered nutrient system given an OG and Target FG. The Staggered Nutrient calculator may not be working completely right. The 2nd addition looks to give the right numbers, but I'm not sure about the first. The faq says it should be done when the gravity drops 'between 2-3 brix.' I used .004 SG for each brix, so it just subtracts .008 and .012 to generate the two numbers. These seem different than example values Hightest has provided though, so there may be something wrong here I'm hoping someone can help correct. - Log The log tab is for recording dates and gravity readings. It also has a notes column - Fermentation rate chart Using the data on the log tab, this tab generates a chart showing the rate of fermentation over time. Anyhow, I hope someone finds this useful. If anyone has any addition or enhancement ideas, I'd be anxious to hear about them. EDIT BY Matt the Mead Maker: I've made some pretty significant additions to jjarmoc's excellent spreadsheet. It now does a variety of computations associated with fruit additions and creating melomels. Enjoy! Spreadsheet |
