I got my controller yesterday and couldn't quite make sense of their wacky, vague diagram. I PM'ed GSchmidt and he promptly set me straight... thanks again! I really appreciate it. This could have been a week-long head scratcher.

For others' future searching reference I thought I'd make this info available. It is actually wired just like my Johnson Controlls a419 unit. The secret is in their trick wording, labeling a switch "output"! How evil!

The ground passes through, the neutral passes through with a wire spliced off for powering the controller, and the hot wire is the only one actually "switched". 8 and 9 do not pass output of power from "power supply"!! They simply switch the load. The result is 3 black and 1 white wire sticking out the back.

I'm a huge dork and like to draw up simple schematics of everything I wire for future reference. You could also jump from 9-10, I just don't like shoving 2 wires in a hole. Personal preference. Hopefully this can help somebody else in the future in the event they don't know to turn to GSchmidt! (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/smile.gif)

TS??

It is the "Series TS" model. They have quite a few. Even some dual probe/dual output that seem very interesting for custom cabinet-type setups. Affordable too.

I got mine from Cole-Palmer, from a link I've seen posted here several times. I really like this little thing. It's the size of a single-pole breaker, and has more options than my JC A419. You can set heating/cooling mode from the contols (no jumper to set inside, some models even do BOTH), set min/max values to be displayed on the LED, +/- probe correction, and get this... you can even schedule defrosting, based on time in-between defrostings and how long to go. It's very small, but effective, and for the price I'll probably be buying more of these in the future.

Glad I could help. I screwed up wiring mine the first time too, and a few other people have asked me that same question. The directions aren't very good, but the controller is great!

Man. Wish I'd seen this thread before buying two a419s recently...

These Love switches are as sweet as they come. I will never go back. G and I have talked about these things as well. The manual is a bit weak on the wiring. I wired mine up wrong also until I finally figured out what it was that this thing did. And G was a BIG help in figuring that out!

Pound for pound, these are worth every penny! I have two for the new rig. One controlls the mash temp and one for the HLT. Right now I have one controlling a lava lamp just for fun!

Works like a charm!

That's an awesome panel, hopefully someday I'll have a rig to even attach one to! Have you built that yet? I'd love to see pics of it in it's home. Very cool. (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/smile.gif)

The part number is EW-93520-00, and it goes for $49 + shipping. Shipping is calculated when they send it out; I haven't checked my CC statement online yet, but I can't imagine it was much.

They only offer a few variations. If you go directly to (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/inlove.gif) Love(IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/inlove.gif) they sell direct, and have a LOT of cool stuff that could be very useful in a setup like yours.

My dream is to have an automated mash system, but I get by OK with what I've got. Knowing me, in an effort to make things easier I'd make it much more difficult.

Thanks for the great info.

The panel is in progress. I'll post pics when done. However, I am seriously re-thinking it. I never liked the look of the Johnson a419s, but they did the job for the right price. Now that you've introduced me to the Love's I'm glad I haven't machined the aluminum yet!

This is the stand it is going on (three years ago when it was still pretty and boil-over free!). The control panel will go under the HLT on the left.

Cheers,
Charlie
