My family has a tradition that I bring the Cherry Wheat every Christmas.

I based my recipe off Sam's Cherry Wheat. But this is the only recipe I do partial mash instead of AG. I like mine better, BUT...........the original has always been a favorite of mine for what it is. IT IS.....a great winter, holiday brew that attracts people to a new taste.

So, for Sams Cherry wheat.....

Darker wheat with poor clarity. Smooth pour, above average head retention for a wheat. Cherry aroma pops out during the initial pour and fades very quickly. Initial taste is pure malt, no hops arena. Aftertaste has a sweet fruity flavor, though not so much cherry as "fruit-like/cherry-like"

{Homebrews nail the "cherry-like) to a "T"............}

I love the Cherry Wheat, I have always loved it..............but I can make a mini-mash with much better results and flavor.

I'd give it a 5

Absolutly aweful. The way I describe this one is if one could think back to the days of cherry flavored cough syrup. Need I say more?

It tasted so much like a cherry soda that I was surprised that I was drinking a beer. The cherry flavor was blatantly artificial. I'm glad I'm not the one who bought the 6 pack.

In the "early days" this stuff was pretty awesome. It was unfiltered, very cloudy, and actually had bits of cherry floating around in it.

I haven't had it in a long time, but it seems like the current version is "OK."

Way back when I was breaking into "real" beer...i.e. no BMC I found myself enjoying Cherry Wheat. After gaining a palate for the greater things I can never touch it again. I don't mind a mild fruit presence in a beer, but cherry wheat is obnoxious in your face artificial cherry grossness...the cough syrup term is very appropriate. Its heavy, syrupy, nasty and just plain old sucks. It might be good for non-beer drinkers and I don't limit this to "chick drink." If you like cosmos heres a beer for ya.

I haven't had it in a while, but it reminded me of cherry 7-up. Once I ordered a Sam Adams at a restaurant thinking I was getting a Boston Lager, but low and behold, it was a Cherry Wheat. Imagine the surprise!

I had this for the first time 3/2/8. I couldn't get into it at all. I also found it to have that cherry 7UP flavoring vs the essence taste I was hoping for.
