First, my apologies to those that don't have a Trader Joe's near by. Now on to business.

I was at TJ's picking up fixins for the upcoming turkey day meal and did my usual pass down the beer aisle. I ran into a guy grabbing two bottles of Trader Joe's 2006 Vintage Ale. He had this crazed look in his eyes and told me "man this is some good stuff". Seeing that it was contract brewed by Unibroue, was packaged in a nice Belgian bottle with cork, and came in at just $4.99 for a 750 mL bottle I couldn't hold back. I cleaned them out of the last four bottles on the shelf.

I immediately put a bottle in the freezer when I got home and was enjoying a glass shortly thereafter. Man, this is a good beer. Highly, highly recommended. Strong malt backbone with plum, light banana, a hint of cloves, and overall a very well balanced profile (especially given that it comes in at 9% ABV).

I plan to stop by again tomorrow to see if I can grab a case.

Dave.

Cool, I'll have to pick some up. I thought the 2005 on the boring side, but I can't wait to try this one.

We just recently got Trader Joes here in Atlanta. (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/biggrin.gif)

From what I understand, because of some f-ed up laws here in GA, they are not yet allowed to sell alcohol. (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/mad.gif)

I dont know, I havent been yet, but this gives me incentive.

I think they just haven't got their licence yet, at least that was what I read. I doubt they will be able to sell their private label beers or wines though. They will have to buy all alcoholic beverages from a local distributor (This is the stupid F-ed up law you speak of (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/crazy.gif) ).

Are these unique brews, or are they repackaged versions of "Edition 2004", "Edition 2005", etc. ?

No idea but I just finished off a bottle and it was a pleasurable belgain and coming in at $5 a bottle I've got no complaints. (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/biggrin.gif)

Picked up a couple myself after seeing this thread. Quite nice and can't beat the price. Reminiscent of Rocheforte.

Was it just me or did anyone pick up cinnamon or nutmeg?

I'd bet that they're different beers. Unibroue Edition 2005 weighs in at 10% and Trader Joe's 2005 at 9%.
