Everytime I log on to this site I have one problem or another navigating. When I search it works about 30% of the time. Do any of you have these issues? It is very frustrating. I like this board but come on with the problems already

With such detailed information, it's a wonder nobody has fixed that problem. (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/sarcasm.gif)

RED ALE, ERROR
ALE, ALSO AN ERROR

In case you ask which I sure you will, the error is:
Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.

Correct - the current setup only allows searching for words >= 4 characters in length. I agree the error message could be more helpful, but it's not a bug. Here's the reasoning behind it.

The database contains a full-text index so that you are able to more quickly search the entire contents of every single post. However, that makes for a LARGE index that must be searched, so a minimum word size limit helps to optimize the size of that index by eliminating smaller, common, less meaningful words like "of", "a", "the", "but", etc. I realize that it aslo makes it difficult or impossible to search on meaningful terms like IPA, etc, but we are already suffereing from crashes and severe performance issues mostly due to searches, so lowering that limit would likely create more problems than it would solve.

My first priority is to upgrade the server. I have secured a new and more powerful server, and am actively migrating the brewboard to it. This will take several days. Only after that is complete can I look into further optimizing these search problems and various user interface issues currently listed in the Bugs forums.

As Chauvan says above, no search terms less than 4 letters. It also says that in the error message. (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/shock.gif)

You could just search for cream, or google 'cream ale site:brewboard.com'

Assuming that the new server holds up (and I expect it will) the 4-character word limit on searches has been reduced to 3 characters.
