This came out excellent and has done well in a couple of competitions. Just thought I'd share. I posted an earlier version on the board a couple of years ago, but I think this one is a lot better.

I don't know, Carlos. Never used the flaked in there. I don't think the flaked rye has as much flavor.

It's pretty good as is, it scored 40+ in both comps I entered it in.

Howie,
What are the Commercial examples of this beer? I have never tried one and would like to taste the style before brewing.
Thanks

This beer is modeled after Terrapin Rye Pale Ale, which is brewed in Athens, GA and distributed throughout the SE. My recipe is not really a "clone," but is very similar. I'd say my recipe is more aggressive than the Terrapin commercial example - a little drier and a little hoppier.

The style is pretty much just an American Pale Ale, but the rye adds a dryness to the finish and a sort of "spiciness" to the malt profile.

I kind of doubt it, but maybe they've grown enough to distribute there.

In general, it's an APA, just a little different. It won the APA category at the GABF several years ago. I always enter it as an APA, not a specialty beer.

Just to be clear on my wording, the Terrapin commercial example won at the GABF.

Obviously my version did not go to GABF, though it has done very well in local competitions.
