Cool. Us Brewboarders are keeping Auber in business singlehandedly.
I'm going to be building a control panel and setting up a keg starting today. Sure is fun doing all that cutting and drilling, huh? |

Cutting the holes was a PITA...Dremel with a fiberglass reinforced cutting wheel...luckily its a heck of a lot softer than a Sanke...
I used a sharp drill bit for the switches and idiot light...cut like butter... I could not be more happier with that Hammond box...snagged it for $20 on ebay...model 1401C. Its even ventilated in back... Gotta place another Mouser order...that place is awesome...I'll post more pics as I do the final assembly. This was just to "fire it up" as they say... |

Making more progress...
Finished wiring the garage with my 2 new outlets from the spa load center box - it now has 1 30A 240V breaker and 2 15A 120V breakers (only one of which is wired right now). The spa load center box is fed via 6 AWG from my main panel from a 50A GFCI breaker that I yanked out of the load center. Now that is out of the way...more pics... Wiring (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/IMG_1136.jpg) Backside (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/IMG_1142.jpg) 120V power cord, 240V power cord, and the female 240V end that will plug into the HLT (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/IMG_1137.jpg) My new outlets - didnt have enough room to get them next to each other...shucks... (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/IMG_1141.jpg) Fired up...trick brushed faceplate and all. (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/IMG_1139.jpg) Time to start cutting some holes soon!!! |

UPDATE!!!
The HLT is almost done...I have enough complete for a brew session though, thats the important part. A special thanks to P-J and his metal lathe for help with the fittings and teaching me the technique of Silver Soldering - I'm a believer in Stay-Brite#8!!! Fired it up last night and it took about 35-40 minutes to go from 58-165 - 4500W element, 12 gallons Hole drilled and ground a little for a nice friction fit on the fitting (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/DSC02369.jpg) Element fitting...started life as a barb fitting...Paul is a madman with that lathe... (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/DSC01565-s.jpg) He even put a recess in there for a good gasket seat (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/DSC01571-s.jpg) Fitting in place (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/DSC02372.jpg) Fitting soldered in place (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/DSC02374.jpg) Box placement...make sure the wrench still can get in there... (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/DSC02375.jpg) Ground wire soldered in place (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/DSC02376.jpg) Starting to come toghether...yes even the box is soldered (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/DSC02377.jpg) She even holds water... (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/DSC02378.jpg) Thermowell - Great Job Paul (IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/kdcj2002/brew/DSC01575-s.jpg) |

Carl,
That rig is looking great. You are no longer a student in the art of soldering stainless steel. I think you now have it down pat. Are you going to put the element in the boil kettle for your brew session? Wishing you great success with it in your next brew. |

Dang! Nice work. Just make sure you watch your boils carefully. A boil over could be disastrous.
